Long ago, even before the Spanish Occupation, the place was already inhabited by the B’laans who used to dwell in tree houses. The big trees and surroundings forests plus endless supply of spring water made the place a haven for both humans and animals, thus, food was not a problem since there was an abundance of plants and wildlife like birds, monkeys and ”baboy damo”.

During this time, despite of the abundance of food, still, barter trade was existed. They solely walked crossing the muddy roads of Koronadal Valley just for them to reached the the neighboring places to exchange their products to some needs like salt. They don’t have any means of transportation.

In 1936, General Paulino Santos arrived together with the First Batch of Settlers from Visayas and two years after the second batch arrived from Luzon. The families were distributed to Tupi, Polunuling, Palian and Koronadal. The settlers nurtured and managed the lands and lived peacefully in their newfound homes.

As an agricultural land, the people were indulged in farming. The management of National Land Settlement Administration (NLSA) as brought about by Gen. Santos thru the brain and effort of Late President Manuel L. Quezon, loaned the farmers a Kariton, a cart pulled by a carabao (water buffalo) or a cow as their means of transporting their products from farm to market. At the same time, their means of transportation. So upon harvest seasons, the farmers are also obliged to pay back for the loaned Kariton.

Even during the Second World War in 1942, people evacuated from their respective homes and traveled to some safe places, still, using the Kariton.

On September 11, 1953, by virtue of Executive Order No. 612 by the Late Elpidio Quirino, Tupi became a municipality and so as the Barangay Poblacion became independent and celebrating its Barangay Day. Still there was the existence of Kariton.

Today, Tupi is now a developed Municipality and so as the Barangay Poblacion. There is already the existence of so many hi-tech vehicles, both luxurious and heavy but still we believe that in Brgy. Poblacion, still, Kariton plays an important role in the lives of the farmers, as their means of transporting their products from farm to market as their accessible conveyance in any farm activities and their means of transportation from farm to town.

Faced with different technologies as developed Barangay, Poblacion strives to cope and face the challenges but still, Kariton is never faced out in the lives of the people particularly the farmers, indeed, people continue to use Kariton.
